Abstract:
This research explores the structure and texture of urban grass-root communities in Bishkek. The term “communities” in this research applies to all kinds of civil society groups, territorial institutions, clubs by interests, activist organizations, local NGOs, religious bodies, online communities, etc. “Structure” is the main characteristics of the cumulative body of all these communities. It includes a typology of groups, their basic features, sizes, motivations, locations, degree of activeness etc. “Texture” is the shape of networks connecting all these different groups to each other, both within and across specific typologies.
